On October 1, 1969, during a performance of La Bohème, there was a strong earthquake that was felt by everyone on stage, but the performance went on. Both Dorothy Kirsten and Luciano Pavarotti reported on it in their biographies. The 5.6 tremor became later known as the Santa Rosa Earthquake.
